Scouting report

LAC RB Kimani Vidal - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs Denver Broncos

After not seeing a ton of work in the initial weeks after J.K. Dobbins' injury, Kimani Vidal saw 3 carries and 3 targets in Week 15. While it's not a ton of work, it shows he'll see more work when the Chargers are behind. Denver is a solid spot for Chargers running backs as they are 23rd aFPA against the position, but as you can see by his RB47 ranking this week you can certainly do better than throw Vidal in the flex.

LAC RB Kimani Vidal - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

While Kimani Vidal has been getting more work and has been more efficient than Gus Edwards, he's still not getting nearly enough work to really consider, especially on a week with no byes. The hope had been that Vidal would see some work in the passing game, but he's had a few ugly drops the last few weeks.

The Buccaneers are 13th aFPA against running backs, so Vidal would have to win on volume in a matchup like this and I just don't see that happening. It isn't the worst matchup, but even Greg Roman has to know the Bucs cannot stop your passing game. I don't think I'd be starting Vidal as anything more than a desperation flex option, but if Ladd McConkey is inactive, I'd feel a little better about Vidal, but if he is in I'd leave Vidal on your bench.

LAC RB Kimani Vidal - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Atlanta Falcons

Kimani Vidal will be active again with J.K. Dobbins on injured reserve. We've seen Hassan Haskins work around the goal line, even with everyone healthy, making Vidal's role a bit precarious. We're projecting him as the third-down back and ideally, he'd get the change-of-pace work, but we'll have to see. Atlanta is a neutral matchup against running backs as they are 14th in aFPA this season. You likely have better options with no one on bye this week.

LAC RB Kimani Vidal - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Cleveland Browns

We haven't really seen an expansion of Kimani Vidal's role since bursting onto the scene with a 38-yard touchdown reception against Denver in Week 6. While he did see a season-high 6 carries last week, his role in the passing game evaporated. Unfortunately, his efficiency on the ground is lacking as he's averaging just 2.8 yards per carry.

A tough matchup against the Browns is on tap as Cleveland ranks 6th aFPA against running backs. Efficiency isn't the name of the game against the Browns anyway, but he'll need to get back involved in the passing game to have any fantasy relevance. If you're desperate this week, he's a flex play, but you likely have better options.

LAC RB Kimani Vidal - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs New Orleans Saints

After an outstanding NFL debut, Kimani Vidal had a bit of a disappointing week against the Cardinals. He's unlikely in your lineup, but after his breakout performance you were probably hoping to see more than 3 carries and 1 target in the follow-up performance.

The Saints are 30th aFPA against running backs, so if Vidal gets any extended run he should be able to put up some decent numbers. Unfortunately, given how heavily the Chargers lean on J.K. Dobbins it would be tough to imagine Vidal getting extended run outside of garbage time. You likely have a better option somewhere, but he's obviously worth stashing.

LAC RB Kimani Vidal - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Arizona Cardinals

Kimani Vidal truthers, unite! This is our time. Unfortunately, after scoring in his NFL debut, it's tough to use him as anything more than a desperation flex option with Gus Edwards on IR. Even in a solid matchup against the Cardinals (16th aFPA against running backs) it's tough to put Vidal in your lineup. He's definitely a name to monitor moving forward should anything happen to Dobbins.
