2022 Fantasy Upside
The word serviceable and potential were used a lot to describe Zach Wilson during his rookie season. He definitely had ups and downs, but the New York brass feel he can be their future at the position. The good news is he will get another full season with an upgraded Jets roster to improve his rookie numbers. New York also brought in Mike LaFleur (brother of Matt LaFleur) to run the offense. He has the physical traits including a big arm, athleticism and the ability to buy time and create space in the pocket.
2022 Fantasy Downside
The fantasy numbers were pretty bad for Wilson. He was very overwhelmed at times and had trouble with his accuracy with deep and intermediate routes. With only 9 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions, and never throwing for 300 yards in a game, there was no reason for him to be in any fantasy lineup or even on a roster. The receiving corps was below average last season, but there is reason for optimism in 2022 with several key draft picks at the skill positions.
2022 Bottom Line
The Jets are committed to Wilson and he should improve as he gets more experience. Remember, he really wasn't a prospect at BYU until his senior season and last year was a throw-away season in which he at least got experience. New York will stick with him as a long as he shows improvement. As for fantasy, he might be worth taking in a late round to be your backup if you have a top 5 QB. Expect the numbers to be better in the range of 3,600 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
