Streaming Tight Ends: Week 12 Targets

Thanksgiving week is upon us and with the fantasy playoffs fast approaching, Week 12 is crunch time. With the tight end landscape as ridiculously barren as it is, streaming may be your best way to get points from the position moving forward. As a strategy, streaming aims to find players with above-average matchups, which can hopefully translate to TE1 production for your fantasy squad.

For streaming purposes, 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed (aFPA) is a metric we rely heavily on to determine weekly matchup strength. As the season continues to progress and more data is available, aFPA becomes more and more reliable, using rolling 10-week data. Targets and efficiency metrics are also considered when choosing weekly streamers.

Gerald Everett was my streaming star in Week 11, checking in as TE3 with 19.9 PPR points. Our optimal TE streamer has 163.9 PPR fantasy points—good enough for TE3 on the season thus far. On to Week 12, and the players who can fill in on a bye week, bail you out of a bad draft choice or simply provide the weekly streaming points you crave.

In order to provide advice that you can actually implement, candidates for tight end streaming consideration must be owned in no more than 40 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues.

Chris Herndon, (Jets) vs. Patriots

After three straight games in the end zone from Weeks 6–8, Herndon posted two mediocre performances, with a combined seven balls for 98 yards before the Jets Week 11 bye week. It’s still unclear if it will be Sam Darnold under center or veteran Josh McCown, but the matchup is too juicy to ignore here.

New York stays home in Week 12 to face fellow AFC East rival New England, a defense ranked 29th in TE aFPA. Herndon has become an integral part of the Jets passing attack (which isn’t super exciting, but nonetheless), so look for New York to expose the Patriots' weak secondary against opposing TEs. Herndon is rostered in only seven percent of Yahoo leagues, so should be there for streaming this week.
