The Training Room: Week 4 Injury Updates
Updated 9/26/18
Player | Position | Team | Injury | Timetable For Recovery | Potential Pickup | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Jimmy Garoppolo | QB | 49ers | Torn ACL | Out for season | C.J. Beathard | Garoppolo suffered a non-contact injury as he was changing direction, which is synonymous for an ACL rupture. After losing Jerick McKinnon to an ACL tear, now they lose their starting quarterback as well. He'll get an MRI to confirm the findings but he'll be out for the season and will be up against the clock to be ready for the start of 2019. |
A.J. Green | WR | Bengals | Strained Groin | Full participant in practice, expected to play Week 4 | Tyler Boyd, John Ross | Green has been a full participant in practice and looks ready to play against a Falcons defense that has struggled against receivers. Play him as you normally would. |
Joe Mixon | RB | Bengals | Knee Scope | OUT FOR WEEK 4 | Giovani Bernard | Mixon did not practice all week, but has been seeing cutting and doing change of direction activity. There's a good chance he returns for Week 5 barring any setbacks. |
Randall Cobb | WR | Packers | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 4 | Geronimo Allison | Cobb missing practice on Saturday is a setback with regards to his injury. He'll likely be a game time decision but is looking to be on the wrong side of questionable heading into tomorrow's game against the Bills. |
Rex Burkhead | RB | Patriots | Strained Neck | Placed on IR | Sony Michel, James White | Well that was a quick turnaround. Neck injuries are tough to gauge and with Burkhead already having a concussion this season, the Patriots are clearly concerned about his health. He'll be eligible to return later in the season but he's not a must hold at this point. |
Leonard Fournette | RB | Jaguars | Strained Hamstring | Limited participant in practice, Questionable for Week 4 | T.J. Yeldon | Fournette has been practicing in limited fashion all week and even indicated he expects to play Sunday. He'll likely go through warm-ups to ensure his hamstring feels good and hopefully get through that unscathed to allow him to suit up for the first time since Week 1. |
Doug Baldwin | WR | Seahawks | Sprained Knee | Questionable for Week 4 | Tyler Lockett, Brandon Marshall | Baldwin practiced all week in limited fashion and is slated to return Week 4. He may not get the full amount of snaps he normally gets as they work him back from the MCL sprained he suffered, but having him back is a good sign for that offense. |
Josh Gordon | WR | Patriots | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 4 | Phillip Dorsett, Julian Edelman | Gordon will be a game time decision to have him try out his hamstring and see how he feels. The expectation is that he'll play but how well he knows the offense might be the most limiting thing for him currently but having him on the field will be encouraging for his opportunities moving forward. |
Devonta Freeman | RB | Falcons | Sprained Knee | OUT FOR WEEK 4 | Tevin Coleman | Freeman showed some signs of improvement later in the week and he was able to do some things that he hasn't in the previous weeks, so he is slowly trending in the right direction. |
Tyrod Taylor | QB | Browns | Concussion | Questionable for Week 4 | Baker Mayfield | Tyrod has cleared through concussion protocol but is still listed as questionable for Week 4 with the expectation that Drew Stanton will be the backup for Baker Mayfield. Unless an injury occurs, Tyrod is droppable in most formats. |
LeSean McCoy | RB | Bills | Rib Injury | Questionable for Week 4, expected to return | Chris Ivory | McCoy has practiced in limited fashion all week and the expectation is that he'll return to face the Packers. His pain levels must've come down in order for him to both practice and be expected to return so he should play his normal share of snaps. |
Alshon Jeffery | WR | Eagles | Shoulder Surgery | Questionable for Week 4 | Nelson Agholor | Jeffery has been practicing since he's been cleared for contact, but he's been battling an illness which makes him questionable. If he plays Week 4, he could potentially be on a snap count to see how the shoulder responds to being back to game action. |
Marlon Mack | RB | Colts | Foot/Hamstring Injury | Questionable for Week 4 | Jordan Wilkins, Nyheim | Mack returned to practice Wednesday after dealing with foot/hamstring injuries which forced him to miss Week 3. The Colts running backs haven't really set the world on fire but someone needs to take over the majority of the snaps, so Mack could have another opportunity to do so this week if he's healthy. |
Jack Doyle | TE | Colts | Hip Injury | OUT FOR WEEK 4 | Eric Ebron | There's still no clear indication as to what hip condition Doyle is dealing with, but he could be another 1-2 weeks away from getting back on the field. |
Evan Engram | TE | Giants | Sprained Knee | OUT FOR WEEK 4 | Rhett Ellison | Engram is projected to miss anywhere between 2-4 weeks, which is pretty typcial of tendon rate healing from an acute injury. |
Jay Ajayi | RB | Eagles | Low Back Pain | Full Participant, Expected to play Week 4 | Corey Clement | Ajayi is dealing with a stress fracture in his low back from the injury he sustained in Week 2. He was a full participant in Friday's practice and looks to be given the green light to return in Week 4. |
Blaine Gabbert | QB | TItans | Concussion | Questionable for week 4 | Marcus Mariota | Gabbert still hasn't cleared concussion protocol so until that occurs, he will not be available for tomorrow as the backup to Mariota. The Titans did sign another |
