The Training Room: Week 13 Injury Updates
The fantasy football playoffs are right around the corner and Week 13 will either be a make or break week for a lot of fantasy owners. Injuries continue to impact how best to navigate your roster each week and this week will be no different. Fantasy owners need to pay special attention to injuries early in the week, along with the Thanksgiving games, as they will affect those who are nursing injuries. Let's take a look at what to expect for Week 13 and how the current injuries will impact your fantasy roster with the playoffs on the line. **Updated 11/30/19
Week 13 Injuries
T.Y. Hilton, WR Colts
Injury: Re-aggravated Strained Calf
TImetable For Recovery: Week-To-Week, Ruled OUT Week 13
Potential Replacement: Zach Pascal, Chester Rodgers
Comments: Hilton re-aggravated his calf injury in Week 12 and apparently suffered a setback as he was trying to rehab his calf injury to potentially be ready for Week 13. This injury has the making of a multi-week injury and at this time of the year I would not count on Hilton being ready or serviceable when the fantasy playoffs start next week.
Zach Ertz, TE Eagles
Injury: Strained Hamstring
Timetable For Recovery: Questionable for Week 13
Potential Replacement: Dallas Goedert
Comments: Ertz actually was dealing with this hamstring issue in Week 12 but was able to play through the injury. Reports are that there's optimism that he plays in Week 13 against the Dolphins but game flow might dictate how much the Eagles use him which becomes more difficult to predict his usage. I'd still start him if he's playing but just be more mindful that the Eagles could pull the plug on him and sit him if they start to pull away from the Dolphins Sunday.
Carson Wentz, QB Eagles
Injury: Sprained Hand
Timetable For Recovery: Day-To-Day, Questionable For Week 13
Potential Replacement: Josh McCown
Comments: There hasn't been much news on Wentz's injured finger this week as the Eagles are trying to downplay how Wentz might be impacted by it this weekend. Regardless, a sprained finger on his throwing hand can be problematic from a gripping standpoint which in turn might affect his overall accuracy down the field. Keep an eye on his status leading up to game time but there is no indication that he is going to miss Week 13.
Albert Wilson, WR Dolphins
Injury: Rib Injury
Timetable For Recovery: Day-To-Day, Expected to play Week 13
Potential Replacement: DeVante Parker, Allen Hurns
Comments: It sounds like Wilson's rib injury is not deemed serious enough to have him miss time which is a good sign. However, Parker and Hurns will likely continue to be the primary targets in this offense in Week 13 and moving forward so it will be hard to trust Wilson.
Dwayne Haskins, QB Redskins
Injury: Sprained Wrist
Timetable For Recovery: Expected to play Week 13
Potential Replacement: Case Keenum
Comments: Haskins was able to practice fully this week which means his wrist injury that he sustained is not something to be overly concerned about. However, his play has not been something that I would recommend fantasy owners to take a risk on with a week left in the fantasy regular season, even in two QB leagues.
Hunter Renfrow, WR Raiders
Injury: Fracture Ribs, Punctured Lung
Timetable For Recovery: Week-To-Week, Ruled OUT for Week 13
Potential Replacement: Zay Jones
Comments: With Renfrow recovering from a punctured lung due to the broken ribs, he won't be rushed back until he's fully healthy. We'll see how long that might take but for now look for the Raiders to hopefully utilize Josh Jacobs more.
On the Mend
Phillip Dorsett, WR Patriots
Injury: Concussion
Timetable For Recovery: Questionable for Week 13
Potential Replacement: N'Keal Harry
Comments: Dorsett has cleared concussion protocol and is expected to return Week 13 even though he's listed as questionable.
Adam Thielen, WR Vikings
Injury: Strained Hamstring
Timetable For Recovery: Questionable for Week 13
Potential Replacement: Olabisi Johnson
Comments: Thielen has been able to practice all this week without too many issues. He's listed as questionable for Monday night football which is less than ideal, so fantasy owners will want to have a backup plan as Thielen has stated that he will not play unless he is 100%. It'll come down to his warm-ups to determine whether or not he'll be ready to roll so keep tabs on his status leading up to Monday night's showdown against the Seahawks.
Mohammed Sanu, WR Patriots
Injury: High Ankle Sprain
Timetable For Recovery: Questionable for Week 13
Potential Replacement: N'Keal Harry
Comments: Sanu was limited all week which bodes well for his possible return to the field after missing last week's game. We'll know more come game time when the Patriots play the Texans on Sunday.
James Conner, RB Steelers
Injury: Sprained AC Joint
Timetable For Recovery: Doubtful for Week 13
Potential Replacement: Benny Snell Jr.
Comments: Conner stated on Monday that it might be a little longer before he returns to the field which doesn't sound like a player who will be ready for Week 13. Conner has had a difficult time staying on the field this year and it remains to be seen what kind of health he'll be in heading into Week 14 and beyond.
JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR Steelers
Injury: Sprained Knee, Concussion
Timetable For Recovery: Ruled OUT for Week 13
Potential Replacement: James Washington, Diontae Johnson
Comments: Smith-Schuster has cleared concussion protocol but like we stated last week, his knee injury is more concerning moving forward as we really don't know how long he might miss. With the fantasy playoffs one week away, it'll be hard to get an idea of how healthy Smith-Schuster will be once that time comes.
Jordan Howard, RB Eagles
Injury: Sprained Shoulder
Timetable For Recovery: Ruled OUT for Week 13
Potential Replacement: Miles Sanders, Jay Ajayi
Comments: Howard practiced in a limited fashion all week last week and was questionable heading into Week 12, but apparently is still not heatlthy enough to get back on the field. Miles Sanders will continue to lead the Eagles backfield as they take on the Dolphins.
Delanie Walker, TE Titans
Injury: Sprained Ankle
Timetable For Recovery: Placed on IR
Potential Replacement: Jonnu Smith
Comments: Walker's season ends prematurely due to his ankle injury and never really got going. Jonnu Smith will finish out the season as the Titans primary TE pass catcher and it remains to be seen how much Walker has got left in the tank heading into next season.
Matt Breida, RB 49ers
Injury: Sprained Ankle
Timetable For Recovery: Questionable for Week 13
Potential Replacement: Tevin Coleman, Raheem Mostert
Comments: The 49ers will welcome back Breida but I'm sure they are still going to heir on the side of caution as he's returning from re-aggravating his injured ankle. Next up for the 49ers is the Ravens in Week 13 so we'll see how the 49ers utilize Breida in addition to Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert.
Evan Engram, TE Giants
Injury: Sprained Foot
Timetable For Recovery: Ruled OUT for Week 13
Potential Replacement: Rhett Ellison, Kaden Smith
Comments: Engram has not played since Week 9 and if you have him on your roster he would be hard to trust once the fantasy playoffs start next week. It remains to be seen if he'll actually play the rest of this year just based on how slow his progress has been recovering from the foot sprain.
