Trader's Alley: Week 7 Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold
You may notice a trend as you read this week’s edition of Trader’s Alley, and that’s a heavy focus on upcoming, and especially fantasy playoff, schedules. My 4for4 colleague (and fantasy football mastermind) TJ Hernandez was tweeting earlier this week about teams with favorable fantasy playoff schedules. This got the wheels turning in my brain. We’re not quite halfway through the season yet, but now could still be a great time for fantasy managers to look to the future, especially teams sitting with a 4-2 record or better. So that’s why the buy low section is a little beefier than other weeks, while the sell high and hold areas are sparse. I wanted to put more of an emphasis on potential late-season surge candidates who could help you secure that fantasy championship you dream every night about. Or maybe that’s just me.
Below are my Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold recommendations heading into Week 7. As always, don’t forget to use the 4for4 Trade Evaluator to try and mine even more value out of your moves. And remember, these recommendations aren’t meant to be end-all, be-all decisions on players. I’m simply trying to highlight players who could help you come out ahead in fantasy trades.
Buy Low
WR – D.J. Chark, Jacksonville Jaguars
Just like we all predicted this summer, through six weeks Chark is currently the WR5 in PPR scoring, with the third-most receiving yards (528) among wide receivers. Chark is coming off his worst performance of the season when he posted just three receptions for 43 yards while getting blanketed by Marshon Lattimore for much of the afternoon against the Saints. His upcoming schedule, especially in the fantasy playoffs, is incredibly favorable and his peripheral numbers are outstanding. He has seen just under 22% of the team’s targets, while his 39.55% of the team’s air yards are not only tops on the team, but eighth overall in the league.
Chark has a get-right game this week against the Bengals, the Texans in Week 9, and then a juicy playoff slate starting in Week 13 with home games against the Buccaneers and Chargers before road trips to Oakland and Atlanta. Chark’s recent run of hit-or-miss games (two 40-yard outings sandwiched around a 164-yard, two-touchdown afternoon) could be worrying his current owner. That’s worth checking out.
