Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Week 7: Marcus Mariota To Take Flight

There’s always one week in which the league reminds me of how little I know. Honestly, it’s every week, but Week 6 was on one. Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence had rushing touchdowns, while Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray didn’t. Skylar Thompson started, and Teddy Bridgewater played in relief and nearly saved the day. Even wilder, someone bet on the scenario to happen. But let’s take a quick look at last week’s streaming recommendations before diving into the Week 7 excitement.

Week 6 Results

Week 6 wasn’t a complete disaster but it didn’t meet expectations. Folks are likely nodding their heads as they expected Geno Smith to bottom out against a weak defense at some point. However, Arizona’s defense isn’t weak at all.

I’ll give credit where it’s due. Vance Joseph schemed up another tough day for the opposing quarterback. Geno Smith completed just one pass to the middle of the field on Sunday. With limited access to crossing patterns, Arizona held Seattle’s passing game to 43 yards after the catch from their receivers. D.K. Metcalf had 51 on his own in Week 4. So, I looked back at Arizona’s previous matchups to see why it looked advantageous from an aFPA standpoint.

Patrick Mahomes torched the Cardinals for five scores in Week 1. The following week, Derek Carr threw two touchdown passes against them. One traveled a single yard, and the other came from the three-yard line. And the first was set up by a defensive pass-interference call putting them on the one. Since then, Jalen Hurts has been the only passer with a positive fantasy result and his day came on the ground (15-61-2).

Not all quarterback points are the same, and I made the mistake of lumping them together. Given Arizona’s performance over the last two weeks, I’ll be more mindful of their impact moving forward.

Normally I advocate for quarterbacks on teams with an above-average pass rate over expectation (PROE). However, the projected matchup is worth the volatility as Marcus Mariota heads to Cincinnati. And, despite the tougher matchups over the last three weeks, the Falcons have been effective on offense.
