Perfect Draft: 6th in a 12-Team Yahoo Half-PPR League

When I draft fantasy football leagues on Yahoo I prefer to be either one of the top three or exactly in the middle. Too often I have been stuck with picks 11 or 12 and missed out on not only the top players in a draft but also a run of tight ends or quarterbacks later that I thought would wait until my next selection.

Having the sixth pick in a Yahoo 12-team draft means you are never waiting for more than a dozen picks to select. It allows you access to the top six players of the draft and also guarantees two top-20 players will make their way to your roster before games kick-off.

Winning teams can be built anywhere in the draft, but the ability to pivot and position a team that’s always in the very middle of the draft board can be extremely beneficial

In this article, I will walk through my favorite players in each round that should be available to me based on Yahoo ADP according to 4for4's Multi-Site ADP and discuss my overall draft strategy from this spot.

The 4for4 staff uses the Draft Hero software for all of our leagues. Draft Hero syncs directly to your league and optimizes each pick using projections and value-based rankings from 4for4. Draft Hero lets you customize your draft experience with settings on which rounds you want to draft a position, how many players you want at each position, and players to target or avoid.

My Plan of Attack When Drafting Sixth

Roster Settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (WR/RB/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DEF, seven bench spots

In home leagues with half-PPR scoring, if I can grab one of the top three running backs, I am doing it every time. The edge gained by rostering Christian McCaffrey, Breece Hall, or Bijan Robinson is so large that it completely offsets the opportunity cost of getting one of the top five receivers.

With the way that wide receiver ADP typically falls on sites like Yahoo, it is much easier to build a good wide receiver room around strong running backs than it is to build reliable running backs around a wide receiver room built with the first three picks of the draft.

However, when picking sixth there is a strong likelihood that you miss on the top three. In that case, I am taking the best pass-catcher available and holding my breath that I can get one of the top nine running backs when it comes back around to me in Round 2. From there, I am building up wide receivers and running backs until the middle rounds because of the overwhelming depth at quarterback and tight end this year.
