The Training Room: Week 3 Injury Updates
Updated 9/22/18
Player | Position | Team | Injury | Recovery Timetable | Potential Pickup | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Joe Mixon | RB | Bengals | Knee Scope | 2-4 Weeks | Giovani Bernard | Mixon was in and out of Thursday night's game against the Ravens due to knee issues. Although he was able to finish the game, he was diagnosed with a loose body in the knee, which basically means there was a piece of cartilage or something dislodged in the knee joint which was causing the knee to lock up on him. He supposedly had surgery over the weekend and will start the recovery process right away. This is a pretty basic clean up and he shouldn't miss too much time, but sometimes recovery isn't as black and white as we think. |
Leonard Fournette | RB | Jaguars | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 3 | T.J. Yeldon | Fournette has practiced in limited fashion all week which is encouraging considering he didnt practice at all last week. The expectation is that Fournette will play against the Titans this week, but the Jaguars may limit his touches to reduce the likelihood of re-injury. |
Aaron Rodgers | QB | Packers | Knee Bone Bruise, Sprained MCL | Questionable for Week 3 | Deshone Kizer | Rodgers did not practice at all this week but did get in a limited practice on Saturday. He is expected to play barring any setbacks so he should be in your lineups as usual. |
Josh Gordon | WR | Patriots | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 3 | Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett | Gordon is still dealing with a hamstring injury that he sustained in a photo shoot before the season. He played Week 1 for the Browns but wasn't very active. If he does end up playing Week 3, he'll likely be used sparingly as he gets used to a new playbook. |
Larry Fitzgerald | WR | Cardinals | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 3 | Christian Kirk, Chad Williams | Fitzgerald practiced in limited fashion all week and is questionable for Week 3. It sounds like Fitzgerald is going to try and play through the hamstring injury, so keep an eye on him to make sure he comes out of the game unscathed. |
Marlon Mack | RB | Colts | Strained Hamstring, Sprained Foot | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 3 | Jordan Wilkins, Nyheim Hines | Mack continues to struggle with injuries that has limited his potentially opportunity to be the starting RB for the Colts. The Colts might be best served to rest him until he is fully healthy so Mack could potentially miss another week or two to get back to 100%. |
Marvin Jones | WR | Lions | Ankle Injury | Game Time Decision for Week 3 | Kenny Golladay | Jones injured his ankle late in the week and was only able to practice in a limited fashion after doing so. He'll likely be a game time decision to test the ankle and see how he feels. |
Jay Ajayi | RB | Eagles | Strained Low Back | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 3 | Corey Clement, Darren Sproles | Sometimes you just need to take a coaches word at face value. Offensive coordinator Mike Groh stated earlier in the week that it was more than likely Ajayi would sit out Week 3 and he was right. It should give Ajayi a good chance to be ready for Week 4, but it's no guarantee |
Dalvin Cook | RB | Vikings | Strained Hamstring | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 3 | Latavius Murray | Cramps don't cause players to miss games, so this is clearly a hamstring issue that Cook is dealing with. The Vikings have stated that Cook should only miss one game, but we'll make sure that he's back practicing again next week to ensure that. |
Antonio Brown | WR | Steelers | Strained Calf | Day to Day | JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Washington | No news is good news with regards to AB's status for Monday night. Brown will attempt to play through the calf issues he was dealing with last week, but I'd be watching very carefully to make sure he doesn't re-aggravate it. |
LeSean McCoy | RB | Bills | Rib Injury | Day to Day | Chris Ivory, Marcus Murphy | McCoy traveled with the team to Minnesota so there's a good chance that he plays, which was the expectation earlier this week when it was reported he didnt have any fractured ribs. McCoy doesn't have a great matchup and remains a hard pill to swallow if you have to play him due to the significant limitations on the Bills offense. |
Mike Wallace | WR | Eagles | Fractured Fibula | PLACED ON IR | DeAndre Carter, Shelton Gibson | Wallace is dealing with a fractured fibula and was put on IR to allow him to recover from the injury. The Eagles signed Jordan Matthews to replace Mike Wallace and with Alshon Jeffery still sidelined, Matthews might see some work right away. |
Marcus Mariota | QB | Titans | Elbow Injury | Day to Day | Blaine Gabbert | Mariota was active for Week 2, but did not play due to the nerve irritation that he sustained in Week 1. He is still dealing with weakness in gripping the ball, which is problematic. It is hard to predict when that'll fully return, but he should have a better chance of starting Week 3. |
Alshon Jeffery | WR | Eagles | Rotator Cuff Surgery | Questionable for Week 3 | Nelson Agholor, Kamar Aiken | Jeffery is questionable but he has not received clearance for contact yet which makes him very unlikely to play. Once he gets cleared, much like Wentz, he should be able to come back quickly. |
Jack Doyle | TE | Colts | Hip Injury | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 3 | Eric Ebron | Doyle has been dealing with a hip issue that is apparently limiting him enough to take some time off. Eric Ebron should continue to get more targets in his absence. |
Marquise Goodwin | WR | 49ers | Quad Contusion | Questionable for Week 3 | Pierre Garcon, Dante Pettis | Goodwin is still recovering from a quad injury he suffered in Week 1. Quad injuries are difficult on players that rely heavily on their speed, so it looks like he'll test his leg out in warm-ups and see how he feels. The expectation is that he does play but just keep an eye on his status before inactives come out. |
