15,000 show up for Lions practice

Jim Schwartz was shocked by the number of Lions fans who showed up for an open practice at Ford Field, despite the pouring rain. He expressed his gratitude in an address to the fans before practice. The official attendance for Saturday's two-hour practice -- featuring players in full pads -- was 15,387.

A number of players missed the practice with injury, including rookie tight end Brandon Pettigrew, rookie safety Louis Delmas, receiver John Standeford, tight end Casey Fitzsimmons, tight end Jake Nordin, receiver Bryant Johnson, safety Louis Bullocks, running back Maurice Morris, offensive lineman Lydon Murtha and cornerback Keith Smith.
