HC Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch challenged Carlos Hyde in the offseason to come back for training camp in the best shape of his life while waiting to engage him in any talks on a possible contract extension.
Hyde, who is set to be a free agent after the season, responded by reporting to camp under 230 pounds for the first time in his career. It's made him a step faster and allowed him to get skinnier when squeezing through small holes.
The question remains can Hyde continue to put up consistent numbers. The story said Hyde is the team's top back, after talks of possibly not even making the team out of camp. The hope is the passing game improves which will make the run more effective. And finally, FB Kyle Juszczyk has been opening up holes as a lead blocker.
