Calvin Johnson already has looked sensational in camp with some highlight catches, and he's expected to have his best year ever. It's not going to be easy to top what he did last season, though. He had 78 catches for 1,331 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
Lions coach Jim Schwartz says a more balanced offense will help the Detroit quarterbacks get the ball downfield to Johnson.
"He's a dynamic player who can change the course of the game just with one big-time play," Schwartz said. "Wherever I go in town, people say, 'Coach, you've got to get the ball to Calvin deep.' Yeah, I'd love to do that, but to do that you're going to see good play-actions, and you're going to see us run the ball because that's the only way we're going free him up. I know that as a defense coordinator."
