Coach Todd Haley said he meant no disrespect for quarterback Matt Cassel when Haley refused to say whether he thought Cassel was the best quarterback in training camp.
Between committing turnovers and being off-target with some throws, Cassel hasn’t played particularly well during camp. On some days he has been outplayed by Brodie Croyle.
“This is a full-time evaluation,” Haley said. “It’s everything that’s going on. You have game situations in which one quarterback’s situation may have been a little different than another’s. The plays called may have been different. There are a lot of things that go into the equation, (so) I don’t think it’s fair (to) any of those guys to answer that question.
“It had nothing to do with my feelings towards anybody. (Cassel is) working hard. He’s into it. He cares about it. This is training camp. We’re trying to evaluate a lot of guys, a lot of different receivers, running backs, tight ends, line, the whole deal.”
