Chris Johnson met with Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt in Nashville on Wednesday, but was back in Orlando on Wednesday night without the big-money contract he’s been seeking for more than a year.
“I feel like I came in yesterday and they gave me their points and we gave them all of our points,’’ Johnson said on Thursday, “and we are not seeing eye-to-eye right now.”
“Basically my plan is to continue to handle my part and let Joel handle his part,’’ Johnson said. “All I can do is continue to work out and stay in shape. From them seeing me yesterday, (Reinfeldt) knows I am in great shape, and he said ‘you’re looking good’ and things like that. All I can do right now is keep working out and keep waiting.’’
Johnson, who has two years remaining on his current contract, wants to be paid in the range of the NFL’s elite playmakers. He is seeking a deal that includes roughly $13.5 million per year and more than $35 million guaranteed.
The Titans have said they are willing to make Johnson the highest-paid running back in the NFL. That would put his average salary in the $10 million range.
For the time being, we have moved Johnson down to RB7 in standard scoring formats and RB8 in PPR. The situation could get uglier or resolve itself within the next two weeks; that's a lot of risk to take on with a first round draft pick.
