“He's probably our best post route runner,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid said of WR Chris Conley. “He knows how to do that thing. Whether it's inside or outside, he's got a real knack for it. We noticed that early when he got here, so that's a good thing. I know the quarterbacks have a lot of trust in him. You get into his fourth, fifth step and all of the sudden he's covering a lot of ground and climbing on top of you fast and that helps on that type of a route.”

Conley could start opposite Jeremy Maclin, but Travis Kelce is the true second option in this offense. Conley has the size and physical skill set to be a factor, but the WR2 in the Kansas City offense has never been much of a fantasy producer.

Rookie wide receiver Chris Conley played in his first NFL preseason game last weekend and will try to take the next step by making his first catch for the Kansas City Chiefs in Friday night’s game against the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium.

He should get enough chances. Conley led Chiefs wide receivers in snaps last week with 33, and offensive coordinator Doug Pederson promised he would get even more work this time.

“He was kind of getting his legs back last week,’’ Pederson said of Conley, who missed the early part of training camp with a sore knee and didn’t play in the Chiefs’ preseason opener two weeks ago. “We wanted to get him back out there and get a couple of snaps. His play will increase this week. He’s a guy that’s in the mix. We’ve got to have a lot of reps on tape to evaluate him properly and see where he fits into out scheme.’’

The Chiefs are still looking for the emergence of a wide receiving option to Jeremy Maclin. The other starter, Albert Wilson, has been mostly quiet in training camp and the preseason.

Conley likely fills the role but he's not likely to be much of a fantasy factor playing third fiddle to Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce.

Chiefs writer Adam Teicher (of ESPN) projects that WR Albert WIlson will start Week 1 over rookie Chris Conley, adding "He came on near the end of his rookie season, recording 12 of his 16 catches in the Chiefs' last four games."

The buzz about Conley has been good, so things have been trending his way, but Teicher believes Wilson has the edge. Conley is a much bigger receiver and has tremendous speed, but the presence of Travis Kelce at tight end makes the Chiefs' WR2 and unappealing fantasy prospect. Remember, the team famously did not throw a touchdown to a receiver during the entire 2014 season.

Throughout OTAs and minicamp, Chris Conley has demonstrated the skills that make him a very intriguing player to watch as the rookie prepares for his first training camp.
