On his very first throw of the game, Eagles QB Mark Sanchez took the shotgun snap, stepped up in the pocket and rifled the ball 52-yards downfield to who else, but Maclin.
"How 'bout that, huh?" Sanchez told reporters with a laugh after the game. "I was expecting maybe a handoff or a quick screen. Ease my way in. But you know Coach (Chip) Kelly. … If he was a basketball coach, he would bring you off the bench shooting three-pointers."
The gutsy play-call by Kelly and pristine execution by Sanchez and Maclin not only illustrate the head coach's confidence in the veteran quarterback, but it also signaled that there will be no 'dumbing down' of the offense because Foles will be out of commission for the foreseeable future.
If you saw any of the game, it was evident that the offense won't change much with Sanchez under center, which is good news for owners of Maclin. Perhaps the only change is running the ball a little more, especially giving bruising back Chris Polk a few more carries. If you're in need of a QB or are a Foles owner, it looks like Sanchez is a safe option to grab off your wire and plug right in.
