Chris Canty didn't play in Saturday's game vs. Chicago, but coach Tom Coughlin had bad injury news regarding him in his day-after conference call Sunday night. The Giants' prized free-agent acquisition has a hamstring tear that is "not progressing the way we want it to," Coughlin said.
"Until we get this thing straightened around with everybody on the field, this rotation and depth we're talking about really is a nonfactor right now," Coughlin said. "We need people practicing, and we need to be able to accomplish that."
Canty won't practice this week, Coughlin said. The Giants are also awaiting another important piece of news regarding the health on their defensive line. DT Jay Alford, who was carted off during Saturday's game with what looked to be a serious knee injury, is still undergoing tests in Manhattan and the Giants won't know if it is just an MCL sprain -- or something more serious -- until later tonight or tomorrow morning.
