Grossman, "not 100%" but good enough to play

When the Texans close the preseason tonight against the Bucs, QB Rex Grossman is going to play at least a half in an attempt to convince coach Gary Kubiak to keep him on the roster when cuts are made to 53 on Saturday.
Kubiak has wanted to keep three veteran QBs the last two seasons. Last year, Quinn Gray failed to make it to training camp, and the Texans entered the season with Matt Schaub and Sage Rosenfels.
When Schaub was lost for five games after suffering a knee injury, the Texans had to scramble to sign Craig Nall for the second year in a row.
When they signed Grossman to a 1-year contract for the $620k minimum, the Texans were hoping he would solidify the third position behind Schaub and Dan Orlovsky.
Grossman threw one incomplete pass in the opener at Kansas City and suffered a pulled hamstring that was supposed to keep him out of the remaining preseason games.
“I’m not 100%, but I’m definitely good enough to play,” Grossman said. “I can do everything I need to be effective. I worked hard to get to this point. I circled this game as a game I needed to get back for.
“I know I need to play in this game and show what I can do. I’m ready to go.”
