With Tyreek Hill out for an unknown time period, Andy Reid will need Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman to step into the playmaking void. Watkins, for his part, told Albert Breer of SI.com that he doesn't think his role will change much.

"I think we got the same roles," he said. "The same particular roles. Same for me. I think we got the other guys to step up. We got Mecole Hardman in the second round. We got Demarcus Robinson. We got so many guys that can step up and play that position. I'm not really worried. Do we need 10? Do we need Tyreek? Yes, we do. I don't think I would've scored a couple touchdowns without him affecting the defense."

Hardman and Robinson are next up on the depth chart and it sounds like Watkins and the team don't expect to miss a beat. Hill didn't need surgery but is expected to miss a few weeks, so guys like Hardman and Robinson could find themselves in much bigger roles and will likely be hot fantasy pickups on the wire this week.

Kansas City Chiefs standout receiver Tyreek Hill had to be transported to a local Jacksonville hospital and is expected to miss "a few weeks" after suffering a shoulder injury during Sunday's 40-26 win over the Jaguars, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Chiefs head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder updated reporters on Hill's status following the win, detailing the precautions they took with the star wide receiver.

"[Hill] had a sternoclavicular joint injury which is where your clavicle comes into your sternum," Burkholder said. "Those can be injured coming out the front, up top or in the back. If it goes posteriorly or back it becomes a medical issue for us so that we worry that there's more problems. His came back posteriorly and he didn't have any medical issues but we still transported him to Baptist Medical Center [Jacksonville] and we turned his care over to Brett Frykberg who is an ortho-trauma physician."

Watkins had a huge day in Week 1 and will likely be a popular add this week. Kelce could also benefit from more targets but so could RBs Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy. Williams had six catches on the day while McCoy added one. Hardman, Thomas and Robinson all move up a spot on the depth chart at WR.

Kansas City Chiefs' rookie wide receiver Mecole Hardman has been earning praise from head coach Andy Reid for his impressive work at camp. “He’s a smart kid,” Reid said, per beat writer Brooke Pryor of the Kansas City Star. “I think it was just him getting used to the speed of the game. And then every route here, there’s no route that’s off. Not with a quarterback like we have. You have to run hard on everything. It might look like a clearing route, but you can’t take it that way. That’s not how it works.”

Pryor writes Monday, the last of a current four-day training camp stretch, was Hardman's best and most consistent days yet. She also notes the chemistry between Hardman and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is constantly growing. Hardman was drafted as a potential replacement option for Tyreek Hill, who was facing a suspension but ultimately did not receive one. But it does mean Hardman adds more speed to an already dangerous offense. Hardman still has developing to do and is yet to play an actual NFL game, but early reports are that Hardman is quickly starting to make a name for himself on the practice field. Hardman is also expected to be heavily evaluated as a punt returner.

Since his arrival with the Chiefs, Mecole Hardman has learned his role could be just about anything in Reid’s expansive and complex playbook. Hardman, who showed elite speed in running his 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in an impressive 4.33 seconds, could be asked to replace star receiver Tyreek Hill.

Whether Hill returns to the team or not, Hardman could be the Chiefs’ primary slot receiver. Hardman could also be the team’s primary punt returner. He could also be the central character on any trick play Reid favors.

Rookie WRs tend to be hit or miss for fantasy purposes, but if Tyreek Hill misses significant time, Hardman could find himself an integral player in one of the most potent offenses in the NFL along with teammate Sammy Watkins. Seeing his HC push him this hard during OTAs shows faith in the former UGA product, which bodes well for his potential work in 2019.

Hardman's ADP is currently WR34 in redraft leagues and WR53 in best-balls, leaving boards in the eighth and 10th rounds respectively. John Paulson projects 143PPR points for the rookie this season as WR51.
