Texans QB Matt Schaub, WR Kevin Walter and free safety Eugene Wilson are Texans starters who are “day-to-day” for the regular-season opener against the Jets because of injuries suffered in Monday's 17-10 loss to Minnesota.
“Let's hope all three guys are OK,” coach Gary Kubiak said Tuesday.
In the second quarter, Schaub suffered a sprained ankle while running for a first down on what turned out to be the Texans' only touchdown drive. He returned to lead the offense to a Kris Brown field goal but didn't play in the third quarter as planned.
After the game, Schaub was wearing a protective boot. As a precaution, the team had Schaub taken to his car in a golf cart.
“He'll be day-to-day, (but) we're shooting for opening day,” Kubiak said. “There will probably be just an update every day.”
Kubiak was asked if he's worried Schaub could miss the Jets game.
“I'm not at that point right now,” he said. “He's very upbeat about it. As I was driving home last night, he called and told me, ‘Hey, I'll be fine. I'll be ready to go.'
“I think it's something we'll be dealing with day-to-day and see how much progress he makes.”
