Lions RB David Montgomery (MCL) out indefinitely

Lions RB David Montgomery is now out indefinitely after suffering an MCL injury during Sunday’s loss to the Bills, sources tell ESPN.

Related players: Jahmyr Gibbs, Craig Reynolds, Sione Vaki

Fantasy Impact:

Montgomery is undergoing additional testing on his knee and getting a second opinion to confirm, but he could be lost for the season, according to the rest of Schefter's post. It's another huge loss for the Lions in terms of their quest for a Super Bowl, but from a fantasy angle it looks like Gibbs will take over the as the clear RB1 going forward. Montgomery has scored 12 TDs this season and his fantasy owners now suffer a huge loss in their lineup for the rest of the fantasy playoffs. Reynolds will likely soak up some of Monty's between-the-tackles work at least, but it remains to be seen how the split in work will be determined. Last season in four games where either Montgomery or Gibbs were out, Reynolds had 7, 10 and 14 carries in three of those games. The exception was a blowout loss to the Ravens were he only received three carries. He had four receptions total in that four game span, so Reynolds could get a decent amount of touches each game for those who may be hurting at the position.
