Panthers WR Smith back

WR Steve Smith was back among the living Friday. “I was never dead, now,” he protested with a laugh. Maybe not, but it looked that way Monday night, when he fell hard on his right shoulder and was carted off. But Friday morning, he was out there in full pads, running through individual drills. Coach John Fox reeled him in before 7-on-7s and anything resembling contact work started, just to be on the safe side. Fox said the return also doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll play Monday in the preseason opener in New York.
When he went down, it looked like he was shot. But Smith said it was nothing more than “a pretty good bone bruise.”
