Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott tucked the ball under his arm and picked up a 12-yard run in this week’s preseason opener against the 49ers, and coach Jason Garrett liked what he saw.

Asked if he tells Prescott to take fewer risks of getting hit during the preseason, Garrett said Prescott is under no such orders.

“No, we don’t tell him that,” Garrett said. “We tell him to go play.”

The story said that's risky to do in a meaningless game, especially with guys like Derrius Guice and Deon Cain already lost for the season. But Prescott's fantasy value could get a boost—as long as it doesn't result in injury—if he ends up taking off running a lot this year.

The Cowboys have chosen to go with a committee approach at wide receiver and tight end, hoping quantity can make up for the quality of the work Dez Bryant and Jason Witten put together for so long. Somehow the group has to make up for the 132 receptions, 1,398 yards, and 11 touchdowns Bryant and Witten combined for in 2017.

The story said seven padded practices into training camp is hardly enough time to make a conclusion, but the passing game so far has not had the juice it has had in the past with Bryant and Witten on the field. OC Scott Linehan admitted in the story it's a work in progress and the team is not where they want to be. Prescott was quoted as saying they are still trying to gain chemistry.

WR Cole Beasley will be a key player for Dallas to re-establish what it's calling a "Dak-friendly" offense. In the slot in 2016, Beasley epitomized that role as the line protected for Prescott and Beasley grabbed underneath balls when Dak Prescott didn't hand off to Ezekiel Elliott. Now, Beasley's working on expanding his route tree under new receivers coach Sanjay Lal.

The story said Dallas plans to shift several receivers across different positions with routes similar that Prescott will know where they're going regardless of who he is targeting. It's likely going to be a receiver by committee approach with Dez Bryant released and Jason Witten retiring.

It didn't take long for Dak Prescott and Dez Bryant to find a rhythm in Saturday night's 24-19 preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Prescott targeted the Pro Bowl receiver on his first pass play. First and 10 from Dallas' own five, Prescott found Bryant for an eight-yard strike that was quickly turned into 23 yards after breaking a tackle.

"He has been healthy all offseason, so that chemistry has grown," Prescott said. "He's been a guy that his ears are wide open, wanting to know what I'm thinking, and I want to know what he's thinking. It's just been back and forth of just talking and doing it out there on the field and it's only growing."

Prescott added, "it's the best Dez has been." He also thought Bryant has been the most improved player so far this season. This obviously could be very key this season for both players and fantasy owners, especially with RB Ezekiel Elliott out because of a suspension.
