Giants WR Sterling Shepard is out of Sunday's game against the Bills with a concussion, per ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

Shepard was placed in the concussion protocol Monday and miss practice all week and will not be cleared in time. That will leave the Giants with Cody Latimer and Bennie Fowler as their top wide receivers with Russell Shepard and Darius Slayton also in the group. It is not an inspiring group, to say the least. The Bills should be getting a heavy dose of Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram on Sunday.

If Sterling Shepard can't get cleared for Week 2, Evan Engram will see plenty of coverage and targets as the only playmaking receiver on the team.

We saw this coming earlier today when we reported HC Pat Shurmur said Shepard "may have a concussion." He'll have to battle to be ready for Week 2. Latimer could see a bigger role if Shepard is out for Week 2.

We may not find out more about Shepard's potential concussion until the Giants release their Wednesday injury report. If he's placed in protocol, it will be a race to be ready for Week 2. The G-Men play an early game against the Bills in Week 2.

WR Sterling Shepard (thumb) is good to go.

Although he's never been in the role, Shepard is expected to be the team's WR1 this season. This is especially true with Golden Tate suspended for the first four games. He has been a solid fantasy WR3 with Odell Beckham in the lineup and that’s about where he’s being drafted right now. The other red flag is that Eli Manning’s production is tailing off.

Sterling Shepard no longer is wearing the yellow non-contact jersey, having ditched it for Sunday’s practice.

It is another step in Shepard’s return from a fractured left thumb, even if the Giants receiver didn’t think it was a big deal.

Shepard continues to wear the splint on his thumb for support, and he remains unavailable for the third preseason game. But Shepard is on track to play in the Sept. 8 opener against the Cowboys, the story said.

Set to be the Giants WR1 this season, this could certainly be a blow if he isn't ready to go at the start of the season. Monitor his progress, but for now, Shepard's ADP is in the eighth round as WR37. 4for4 has him ranked a bit lower as WR41.
