Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are now both expected to start. However, both are risky plays due to injury concerns.
Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that Matthew Stafford will start for the Detroit Lions and Calvin Johnson will play. This is a shock. More soon.
MLive.com is reporting:
Detroit Lions fans have one more thing to be thankful for during this Thanksgiving holiday: Matthew Stafford will play today.
Though nothing official has been announced, a source close to the team revealed that the rookie quarterback will be under center when the Lions take the field against the Green Bay Packers today.
Stafford, who hurt his left (non-throwing) shoulder while engineering the last-second game-winning drive against Cleveland last Sunday, was listed as doubtful.
Lions QB Matthew Stafford (shoulder doubtful) missed practice Wednesday and is not expected to play Thursday against the Giants. Look for him to suit up after a long week off. Daunte Culpepper will get the start Thursday.
After today, QB Matthew Stafford (shoulder) is looking less likely for Thursday. Daunte Culpepper is in line to start.
While the lack of participation at practice Tuesday would seem to indicate that the Detroit Lions likely will be without their two best offensive players -- rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford and receiver Calvin Johnson -- for Thursday's game, no one is willing to say that with any certainty. "He's improving," Coach Schwartz said of Johnson, who missed two games this season with a right knee injury. "It's something that isn't related. He went down on the one and banged it up a bit." Well, that explains it. Schwartz was equally as vague about Stafford's status for Thursday's game.
"We'll have to wait and see. If it's the way it was today, a lot of guys wouldn't have been able to play, but you don't want to rule anyone out this time of the week," Schwartz said.

The Detroit Lions practiced Tuesday without quarterback Matthew Stafford(notes) and wide receiver Calvin Johnson(notes).
The injured players watched the workouts that were open to the media.
Stafford’s left shoulder was dislocated in Sunday’s 38-37 win against Cleveland. He made the game-winning throw with his right arm after getting hit on the previous play. Johnson has hand and knee injuries.
Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz today said rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford has a separated left shoulder, but it was not dislocated.
Schwartz said it was "unlikely'' Stafford would play Thursday against the Green Bay Packers, but he still left open the possibility that he might.
Matthew Stafford's status for Thursday iffy; Coach Schwartz said X-rays ruled out broken collarbone, which they feared.
He will have an MRI today.
Lions rookie Matthew Stafford was able to return to the game because the Browns called a timeout after he hurt his left shoulder on what would have been the last play. Detroit was given an untimed play because of a pass interference call in the end zone when Stafford heaved a desperation attempt.
Stafford was hit after his throw to the end zone and replaced by Daunte Culpepper. He came back to throw his fifth touchdown pass from 1 yard to Brandon Pettigrew for the 38-37 win.
Coach Jim Schwartz said X-rays showed Stafford’s collarbone wasn’t broken, but added more tests are needed.
