"Strong possibility" that WR Sterling Shepard (concussion) remains sidelined this week vs. Lions, per coach Pat Shurmur. That is based on what he knows today, but don't expect that to change.

Sterling Shepard suffered two concussions in four weeks making a quick return unlikely. While he is out Darius Slayton and Golden Tate will continue to see a bump in usage.

With David Johnson nursing an ankle injury, Cardinals are signing veteran RB Alfred Morris, per source.

With Foster also injured, the Morris signing could be more about Foster than Johnson, but that's obviously the big question. The good news is Johnson was able to suit up and seems like he probably could have played, but for good reason, Johnson owners are going to be gun-shy this week.

Sterling Shepard has no doubt that he will play again this season for the Giants despite being in concussion protocol for the second time earlier this month.

"Oh, I'll be back out on the field," Shepard told NorthJersey.com and USA TODAY Network Northeast. "It's just whether it's gonna be this week or next week."

Shepard remains in concussion protocol, but he returned to practice as a non-contact participant last week. He has missed the Giants' last two games against New England and Minnesota, and his availability for Sunday's game against the Lions in Detroit remains uncertain. According to the author, Shepard is going to listen to doctors, and his body and keep his family in mind. Reports soon after his concussion said it could take a while for him to be back.

The Arizona Cardinals are bringing in a couple of veteran running backs for workouts, according to multiple reports.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Arizona was going to work out Jay Ajayi and Spencer Ware.

Johnson owners have likely learned their lesson after last week when Johnson got one carry before turning things over to Edmonds. It's a situation to monitor as Foster is also banged up, so if the team signs another back, it may not necessarily mean Johnson won't return to his normal workload in Week 8.

The Browns have said all along they expect Mayfield to be under center in Week 8 following the team's Week 7 bye.

The Cardinals preserved David Johnson on a day they had just two running backs active. D.J. Foster injured his hamstring during Thursday's practice and was ruled out by Friday, leaving Johnson and Chase Edmonds as the only two active backs. If Foster didn't get injured there was a good chance Johnson wouldn't have played this week.

Edmonds was seen throwing up on the sidelines at one point, and Johnson re-entered the game, but Edmonds insisted on returning. While this wasn't exactly ideal for fantasy owners, the Cards were looking to keep Johnson healthy for the long run. If Edmonds is still out there on your wire, he's going to be worth an add. Johnson owners may also want to think about trading for Edmonds if he's already been snagged.
