Quarterback EJ Manuel had some good connections with WR Sammy Watkins, the fourth overall pick in the draft. Watkins caught four passes from Manuel in full team or 7-on-7 work, the nicest a 20-yard corner route on the right sideline.

“I really want to get it to him in a spot for him to catch it and get some yards after the catch,” Manuel said.

Manuel had a good escape of the pocket at one point and found Robert Woods open for about 15 yards along the right sideline. Manuel threw one interception. Safety Aaron Williams picked off a deep ball for Woods that hung in the air a bit too long.

When the Bills sent away their first round pick in 2015 to move up to take Watkins, there was little doubt that he would step in right away and be not only the team’s starter, but their top wideout. His blend of explosiveness, hands and physicality make him a rare find from a talent perspective, so expect the Bills to have him on the field in bunches.

He’ll pair with Robert Woods in sets with only two wide receivers in hopes that they form a very dynamic duo. The Bills are still very high on Woods, believing that he is as good of a number two target as they can find.

When the Bills go to three wide receiver sets, expect to see Mike Williams. The story says they view Williams as a potential instant contributor, and someone who could help QB E.J. Manuel in both the red zone and as a player with high pointing ability on all areas of the field. Marquise Goodwin will be the change of pace wide receiver just as he was last year when healthy.

With two new targets brought in for Bills QB E.J. Manuel throughout the offseason, the only constant from 2013 projected to this year’s starting lineup is Robert Woods. And to this point through the workouts, Woods has not disappointed in the least bit. He didn’t start participating during the team drills right away due to an ankle procedure early on into the offseason. However, once he got the green light Manuel has gotten reacquainted with Woods and found the trust without much delay. The second-year wideout won’t break a game wide open, but he is as consistent and dependable as they come. Woods adjusted to a poorly thrown pass at the goal line after beating his man on an out route, dove for the reception and rolled into the end zone. It was a small example, but further evidence to what Woods means to Manuel.

Throughout all of the Organized Team Activities and the three-day minicamp, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Mike Williams wasn’t getting as many reps during practice as was expected for a player with his talent level. The reason for his slow start has now been unveiled.

“We started off where, they threw me out there and I was just going every rep, and then the leg started getting to me,” Williams said, referring to a previous injury. “Then they started holding me back more and more, but then I started getting my leg back, they were giving me more reps. It was really the leg, but I should be 100-percent by camp.”

The injury that ended his season prematurely in Tampa Bay during the 2013 season was a torn hamstring, and one that he had a procedure on. Now with a substantial amount of time off from practices, Williams is hoping for his leg to get back in order by the time training camp rolls around.

Williams is competing with Robert Woods for snaps opposite Sammy Watkins, who is very likely to start as a rookie.

Bills WR Mike Williams didn't stand out in OTAs and seeing him in action, there isn't a particular skill that he brings to the table that is different from the rest of the receiver group. If Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods become fixtures on the outside and Chris Hogan can continue to contribute in the slot, Williams starts to slide down the depth chart. The Bills will keep Marquise Goodwin and Marcus Easley on their final roster, so Williams will have to fight Hogan and T.J. Graham for the final spot.

It sounds as if Watkins and Woods are penciled in to start for the Bills with Williams at best the WR3/WR4.

Woods is expected to be fine for camp, so this is probably a minor surgery. Woods will compete with Mike Williams to start opposite Sammy Watkins in the Bills' run-heavy offense.

In order to help Robert Woods flourish in the current corps of receivers Stevie Johnson had to be moved from the slot receiver role so Woods could fill it.

It’s believed that Woods can be an even more productive receiver in the slot. Right now he has the most chemistry with E.J. Manuel as OTAs are set to begin. What’s more his precise route running provides more consistency for a quarterback looking to take the next step in his on field performance than the unconventional route running of Johnson.

As Doug Whaley has said the aim this year is to help EJ Manuel take the next step in his development as a franchise quarterback. Providing him with the most dynamic receiver in the draft (Sammy Watkins) and a proven scorer in Mike Williams, both of whom can high point the ball as well as anyone, and then a reliable receiver in the slot in Woods they believe will enhance Manuel’s chances of succeeding.

It will be interesting to see who plays opposite Sammy Watkins in two-WR sets -- will it be Woods or the newly acquired Mike Williams? Whoever sees starter's snaps should be fantasy relevant in 2014.
