Streaming Tight Ends: Week 2 Targets

So you missed out on a top tier TE, or purposely chose to wait until later rounds with the strategy of streaming the position weekly? You’ve come to the right place. It’s time to assess your lineup and see if the TE you drafted is worthy of getting the starting nod, or if you are better off grabbing someone off the waiver wire who has an above average matchup which can hopefully translate to TE1 production.

For streaming purposes, 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed (aFPA) is a metric we rely heavily on to determine weekly matchup strength. Since aFPA requires a minimum of three to four weeks of data to provide truly reliable results, in these early weeks, streaming options will be selected based on a combination of opponents’ fantasy points allowed, usage and last season’s numbers.

The goal is to roster a player that is going to return TE1 fantasy points and in Week 1, two out of my three recommended streamers did just that. Eric Ebron posted 15.60 fantasy points, grabbing all five of his targets as the TE4 on the week, while Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught his one lone reception, but made it a good one scoring a touchdown for Tampa Bay and 10 fantasy points as the Week 1 TE11.

In order to provide advice that you can actually implement, candidates for streaming must be available in at least 40% of Yahoo fantasy leagues.

My Week 2 Streaming Targets:

Larry Donnell/Will Tye (NYG) vs. New Orleans

In Week 1, we saw Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr throw for 319 yards on the Saints defense. While TE Clive Walford only saw three targets for 25 yards, New Orleans’ defense is predicted to give up 18.1 aFPA to the position which bodes well for both of the Giants TEs. With just a one-week sample size, it’s tough to determine who will emerge with the most targets this weekend, as Donnell was on the field for 55% of the team’s snaps to Tye’s 45%. Donnell made his snap time count by catching a 15-yard touchdown for 8.50 fantasy points, enough for TE12 on the week, while Tye’s three receptions earned him 4.60 fantasy points as TE26.

With the implied total score of this Week 2 matchup currently at 51.5, it appears we are in for a bonafide shootout at MetLife Stadium. Donnell is currently available in 98% of Yahoo fantasy leagues and Tye is only owned by 1% of you degenerates.

Even if they split targets for a second week, each one of these TEs offers a decent value, as Eli Manning should have a field day with this Saints’ defense.
