WR vs. CB Matchups to Exploit & Avoid in DFS - Week 8
When it comes to selecting receivers in DFS, it’s important to understand who will cover them, as sometimes defense versus position stats alone don't tell the whole story. In addition, there can many times be defensive injuries that will have a significant, and perhaps hidden, effect on a receiver's matchup. Below we'll take a deeper look at the matchups that should help in your WR decisions for Week 8. Keep in mind the main slate is just 10 games, as there are six teams on bye this week. There is also another game in London on Sunday morning.
Note: Any unlisted matchups -- especially those of prominent WRs -- should generally be considered a push.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans (Thursday)
Be cautious: The Jacksonville offense has sputtered over the last few weeks. Jason McCourty lines up as the right side corner 93 percent of his routes, so he should see Allen Robinson in coverage Thursday night. McCourty has been improved in coverage this season, allowing fewer than six yards per target and 0.25 points per route. Robinson moves around the field, so there’s a possibility he sees some Antwon Blake, which would make for some yuuuuuuge fantasy goodness for Robinson.
Exploit: Brice McCain is a corner you can take advantage of. He lines up in the slot primarily and should see Allen Hurns for most of the night. McCain can get beat on quick routes and is allowing nine yards per target and 0.30 points per route. Of the Jaguar receivers, I think Hurns has the best matchup.
Exploit: If you'd like to pivot off of Robinson or Hurns, you could look to Marqise Lee who should draw Antwon Blake, as it appears that Perrish Cox has been ruled out. In the dictionary, next to the definition of toast, would be a picture of Blake as he was responsible for giving up gobs of yards to receivers, as he allowed nearly 0.50 points per route in 2015.
Exploit: Davon House in the slot has been burnable this season. Since Prince Amukamara came back, House has been playing more slot corner and should draw Kendall Wright in coverage this week. Wright is averaging 0.45 points per route, while House is allowing 0.45 points per route and yielding over 10 yards per target.
