WR vs. CB Matchups to Exploit & Avoid in DFS - Week 16
When it comes to selecting receivers in DFS, it’s important to understand who will cover them, as sometimes defense versus position stats alone don't tell the whole story. In addition, there can many times be defensive injuries that will have a significant, and perhaps hidden, effect on a receiver's matchup. Below we'll take a deeper look at the matchups that should help in your WR decisions for Week 16, and remember, the main slate is Saturday. I wish everyone the safest and happiest of holidays!
Note: Any unlisted matchups -- especially those of prominent WRs -- should generally be considered a push. This article is also updated throughout the week as injuries and news breaks.
New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles (Thursday)
Exploit: Nolan Carroll should draw Odell Beckham for most of the night. Carroll lines up on Beckham’s side of the field 96 percent of the time and has been one of the league's worst corners. Carroll is allowing 0.27 points per route while being targeted over 14 yards downfield. If playing a contest with the Thursday slate, OBJ should be in play.
Exploit: If you’re looking to save a bit of coin, target Malcolm Jenkins from the slot. Jenkins has given up a lot of production to opposing slot receivers, yielding 0.44 points per route. Sterling Shepard provides value in a great matchup.
Avoid: I’m not a fan of targeting the Giants' cornerbacks these days, especially since the Eagles don’t have a must-play receiver that warrants weekly consideration. Jordan Matthews should draw Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and while DRC is allowing 0.29 points per route, he’s making a play on the ball nearly 40 percent of the time he’s thrown at.
Update: Janoris Jenkins appears to be game-time decision, however, this doesn't really impact Matthews' matchup I don't think. I didn't expect Jenkins to see Matthews, as Jenkins has only run five percent of his routes from the slot. Dorial Green-Beckham will get the benefit if Jenkins is inactive.
