Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Tuesday Polamalu has been doing straight-line running in his rehabilitation from a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and could “maybe” return to practice this week. For now, he’ll be considered day to day. How Polamalu responds to the most recent workouts will determine his availability for Sunday’s crucial game against the Dolphins.
“The door isn’t closed on him participating,” Tomlin said.
Polamalu has missed the last six games — and 10 total this season — because of his troublesome left knee. He sprained the PCL in the knee on Nov. 15, after missing four games earlier this season with a torn medial collateral ligament in the same knee.
