Trader's Alley: Week 4 Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold
Week 4 means we’re about to be 25% of the way through the fantasy season. That makes me sad. It always goes way too fast. However, Week 4 also presents us with plenty of smart moves to make on the fantasy market to exploit rising and falling values for players. We have just a big enough sample size for people to be getting worried about star players, presenting the perfect opportunity to strike.
Below are my Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold recommendations heading into Week 4. As always, don’t forget to use the 4for4 Trade Evaluator to try and mine even more value out of your moves. And remember, these recommendations aren’t meant to be end-all, be-all decisions on players. I’m simply trying to highlight players who could help you come out ahead in fantasy trades.
Buy Low
WR – Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers
Entering this season, a strong case was made for Adams to be the WR1 in fantasy drafts, and the data backed it up. He’d crossed 100 yards or scored a touchdown in over 75% of his games with Aaron Rodgers since 2016. Unfortunately, Adams started 2019 off slowly (along with the rest of the Packers offense). He’s crossed 100 yards once, but hasn’t found the end zone yet. The concerning part of trading for Adams is that the Packers offense ranks among the slowest in the league in terms of plays run, and Rodgers is averaging around seven fewer targets per game under Matt LaFleur than he did in his last two full seasons under Mike McCarthy. Still, Adams is the Packers main target, and this offense still hasn’t hit full stride yet. With a slate of upcoming games that could require the Packers offense to put up points or shut up (Cowboys, Lions, Chiefs, Panthers, 49ers), this could be the calm before an Adams' point storm.
