Trader's Alley: Week 10 Buy Low, Sell High and Hold

Week 10 is the bye-pocalypse, where six teams take a break for a week and leave fantasy managers to scramble on the waiver-wire. While that part of the routine certainly becomes problematic, so many teams on byes can create some unique trading opportunities right before the deadline. Finding players who’ve underperformed and are heading into their bye might just result in some buy-low steals.

Think about it. If a player hasn’t been producing and is now off for the toughest bye-week of the season, why wouldn’t a manager be more likely to give that player up in exchange for some help in the here and now? As you’ll see below, three of the players listed as buys or holds are heading into their byes this week. By exploiting this point in the season, you just might be able to position yourself for an even deeper run in the fantasy postseason.

Below are my Buy Low, Sell High, and Hold recommendations heading into Week 10. As always, don’t forget to use the 4for4 Trade Evaluator to try and mine even more value out of your moves. And remember, these recommendations aren’t meant to be end-all, be-all decisions on players. I’m simply trying to highlight players who could help you come out ahead in fantasy trades.

Buy Low

WR – Alshon Jeffery, Philadelphia Eagles

I trust the Eagles pass-catchers about as far as I can throw them (which isn’t far), but Jeffery’s situation offers a decent buy-low opportunity with some upside leading into the fantasy playoffs. Jeffery has struggled a bit lately with some key drops, and the Eagles’ diverse passing attack has diminished Jeffery’s target share. He’s averaging 6.3 targets, 3.3 catches, and 46 yards per game with zero touchdowns over his last three contests. In the three games before that, he averaged 9.7 targets, 6.3 catches, and 55.3 yards per game with two touchdowns. Jeffery has scored just 23.80 fantasy points over his last three weeks and is heading into his bye, so his owner very well could be fed up.

If you can swing a trade for Jeffery for cheap, go for it. The Eagles schedule after their bye is filled with potential shootouts (vs. Patriots, vs. Seahawks) and cupcake secondaries (at Dolphins, vs. Giants, at Redskins), which could put Jeffery in position for a strong fantasy finish to the season.
