Cam Newton clear leader in QB competition

The Athletic's Jeff Howe declared QB Cam Newton the clear leader in New England's quarterback competition. Newton played the majority of quality reps Thursday and has shown the most upside according to Howe.

Fantasy Impact:

It appeared evident from the moment he signed that Newton would be the Week 1 starter, but the Patriots are covering all bases by giving Newton, Jarrett Stidham, and Brian Hoyer reps and letting the competition play out. Newton's ADP will continue to climb with this news.

It's a bit of a crapshoot as to who the "WR2" on the offense will be, but now that he's ruled out, Brown and Goedert should get a nice boost to their bottom line. That would lock Goedert into a no-doubt TE1 role in Week 12.
