Enough about the toes. That's what the Lions are saying, that's what they're seeing and that's what Jahvid Best is feeling.
Small injuries can make a big difference, and last season the Lions discovered their young running back goes as the toes go. The toes went slowly, and for stretches, so did Best.
They feel great now, no surgery required for that classic NFL ailment — turf toe. Best is hopping and cutting and smiling these days and his timing is pretty good, because the Lions need him more than ever.
"It's a tremendous difference now," Best said. "Last year, just walking around during warm-ups, it was bothering me. Now my expectation is to carry the load, and I definitely feel I can be an every-down back."
