New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker said Tuesday he feels "OK" after suffering a neck injury while making a tackle in Saturday's preseason loss to the Detroit Lions.
Pressed on whether he'd be able to play in Thursday's preseason finale against the New York Giants, Welker was guarded and suggested he'd leave that decision to New England's medical staff.
"We'll see what doctors and trainers and everybody else says. Whatever they say is what's going to happen," Welker said. "I'm just working hard and trying to get back out there."
"I think anything that has to do with that part of your body, it's always scary," said Welker, able to move his head while addressing reporters. "But we have good doctors, good trainers, so I wasn't too worried about it.
"I don't really recall [if he lost feeling], I just remember making sure everything was all right, and the doctors checking me out. Now I'm just trying to get ready for the next game."
