The Lions still don't know whether Jahvid Best will return from concussion problems this season, but coach Jim Schwartz said Tuesday the decision to re-sign running back Kevin Smith was made independent of concerns over Best's health.
"We're not adding an extra running back, we're sort of one in, one out," Schwartz said. "And it was more ... because Kevin was in such great shape, moved so well, impressed us so much in the workout. Plus, we knew his work ethic and his ability to know the offense, things like that. But it was more a result of how he looked physically rather than anything else."
