Rookie Brandon Pettigrew Has Impressed Lions

While everyone in the Detroit Lions organization is anxious for the arrival of training camp and the opportunity to see first-round draft pick Brandon Pettigrew blocking in full pads, the team was pretty happy with what they saw in minicamp.

Pettigrew made a couple of outstanding plays as a receiver, making a leaping catch downfield -- "I think he went up about 12 feet to catch that one,'' said Lions head coach Jim Schwartz -- and he also went to the ground to catch a pass in the end zone during a goal-line drill.

Pettigrew, the 20th overall pick in the draft (and one of the picks the Lions got in the Roy Williams trade), was the highest rated tight end coming out in the draft. He has tremendous size at 6-5 ½ and 265 pounds, has soft hands, excellent strength and an offensive lineman's mentality.
