Despite a fumble, Cowboys RB Marion Barber was one of the players who stood out in the eyes of Wade Phillips on the first day of pads. The others included TEs Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett, nose tackle Jay Ratliff and LB DeMarcus Ware, who had 3 sacks in the morning practice alone.
Barber looked strong, quick and powerful, according to Phillips and seemingly focused on bouncing back from an injury-plagued season in 2008.
Phillips said Barber is benefiting from a full off-season program for the first time in two years. Last year, Barber spent time in Miami with agent Drew Rosenhaus in the midst of a contract dispute.
"It’s my own opinion, but him being out last year hurt him some," Phillips said. "I haven’t seen a guy have a great year that wasn’t in the program. Now that doesn’t mean they can’t go off and have a great year, but that’s what I’ve seen so far."
