The Vikings announced today that defensive end Kenechi Udeze has retired.
Udeze had been attempting to come back from a rare form of leukemia and had participated in offseason workouts. He sat out last season while undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells.
Udeze was unable to complete his comeback.
He issued a statement today, through his brother, Thomas Barnes.
"My leukemia is still in remission and I am well," Udeze said in the statement. "Unfortunately, however, I have decided to retire due to certain side effects from my pre-transplant treatment.
