Lions coach Jim Schwartz wouldn't rule out his top two receivers, Calvin Johnson and Bryant Johnson, but both are on the mend and neither is expected to play against the Falcons. The same is true for slot receiver Dennis Northcutt and John Standeford.
So the battle for the final one or two spots at receiver begins in earnest for a group that includes Keary Colbert and Adam Jennings -- two late-season additions in 2008 -- and a handful of new faces.
"You're gonna see a lot of our backups playing early, and I think it's gonna be exciting for those guys to play against the (starters), and also see who steps up in that group," Mayhew said. "The wide receiver group should be interesting. Adam Jennings, Derrick Williams, Eric Fowler, all those guys are kind of in a battle and it should be fun to watch those guys play."
