In addition to Tyree's release, the Giants put defensive tackle Jay Alford on injured reserve. Alford underwent surgery yesterday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Another defensive tackle, Jeremy Clark, was waived injured (ankle).
Tight end Michael Matthews, who played in all 37 regular season and postseason games the previous two years, was traded to New England for a conditional draft choice.
