The struggling Dallas Cowboys intend to start Matt Cassel at quarterback when they return from their bye week, a league source told ESPN.
Brandon Weeden, who has been the starter during Dallas' three-game losing streak, was informed by Cowboys coaches that Cassel will start in Week 7 against the New York Giants, according to the source.
Cassel, who was acquired in a trade with the Bills after Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was injured in Week 2, was promoted to the No. 2 quarterback spot last week ahead of Kellen Moore.
The timing makes sense as Cassel will have the extra week to prepare. And if you believe what the team is saying, it's possible WR Dez Bryant returns to help give the offense a boost as well in Week 7. If that's the case, Cassel could have some QB2 value right out of the gate. The team is just looking to stay afloat in what is a weak division that's still up for grabs.
