Chris Thompson's role expanding

Redskins RB Chris Thompson, listed at 5-foot-8 and 193 pounds, has been the most effective player out of the backfield over the last three games. While the run game has struggled in that span, Thompson has led the Redskins’ trio with 97 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Compare that to Morris, who has 31 carries for 96 yards, and Jones, 29 rushes for 69 yards, and it’s no wonder why Thompson’s role has expanded to more than just a third down back. He’s played in at least 39 percent of the game during the last three contests, receiving 38 snaps against the Giants, 33 against the Eagles and 29 last week in the overtime loss to the Falcons.

Fantasy Impact:

It remains to be seen if Thompson's role continues to increase. Right now, he has some deeper PPR league value but in typical leagues he's still a risky play with Jones and Morris still a part of the running attack. The team has always like Thompson but some injuries kept him off the field the last few years. The story said Thompson commented the coaching staff has planned specific packages for the change-of-pace back outside of his normal third down duties.
