Jaguars to be without CB Rashean Mathis again

Rashean Mathis said his groin injury is improving, but that won't stop him from missing his third consecutive game Sunday, when the Jaguars play host to the Houston Texans.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio reiterated Wednesday what he'd said the day before on his radio show: Mathis would be unavailable

"He will not play this weekend. There's no sense in dragging that out," Del Rio said. "He's just not ready to go yet. We'll take another peek and hope for next week."

Mathis began running earlier in the week, and said he's further along in recovery than the training staff and coaches thought he'd be. Still, he's not ready.

"I know my body. I know what it takes to play on Sunday," Mathis said.

Second-year player Tyron Brackenridge is preparing to start his third consecutive game.

He'll be facing a Texans team that features one of the league's most dynamic receivers in Andre Johnson.
