Scouting report

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at New England
Hurns has put up at least 60 yards in both games this season after catching four passes for 68 yards last week. With more attention focused on Allen Robinson, Hurns could have some success this week against a weak New England secondary. He's dealing with a thigh issue that has him on the injury list, but he should be fine to play. The Jags figure to have to put the ball in the air a lot in this game, and Hurns could be a big beneficiary of that. Start him as a low-end No. 3 receiver or high-end flex with plenty of upside.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 2, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs Miami
Hurns caught five passes for 60 yards last week, but only had seven targets last week (third on the team behind rookie Rashad Greene and Allen Robinson), which is not a very good sign in a limited passing attack. Hurns will continue to be a hit-and-miss kind of receiver unless he can figure out a way to be a bigger part of the attack. Miami's pass defense was good last week. Don't use Hurns for anything more than a flex unless you have to this week.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Carolina
Hurns had an up-and-down rookie season, the kind you might expect for an undrafted player. But he did score six touchdowns and is a threat to stretch the field for the Jaguars. Hurns seems to have the trust of quarterback Blake Bortles and he does what some of the other Jags receivers do not do - stay healthy. Though he has been dealing with a hip injury, he wasn't on the injury list this week. Hurns should at least be a solid flex play.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Hurns had some really big games during his rookie season and emerged as a decent fantasy option on certain weeks. He's starting again this season, so the opportunities should continue. Hurns is the home-run hitter in this offense.

Fantasy Downside
The 23-year-old was up an down last season and struggled with some drops. He had a typical rookie roller coaster season.

Bottom line
Hurns scored six touchdowns last year, but had just 51 catches on 97 targets. He is a classic big-play guy and there will be some hits and misses again this season. Hurns is currently being drafted towards the end of most fantasy drafts and is worth a late-round flier.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Allen Hurns Week 17 vs. Texans
Despite being targeted 26 times in the past three weeks, Allen Hurns has just 14 receptions, which isn't bad until you consider he's gained just 132 yards on those catches. So much for his deep speed. He did score a touchdown three weeks ago against Houston, so there's some hope. But not too much.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Allen Hurns Week 16 vs. Titans
Allen Hurns managed six catches for 70 yards last week at Baltimore and given that the Titans are also a poor pass defense, he'll be a hot pickup again. But that was his best outing since Week 9. The inconsistency with both the Jags' passing game and Hurns' own play is just too big of a risk. He's a boom or bust option weekly, but look elsewhere in Championship Week.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Allen Hurns Week 15 vs. Ravens
Hurns got 10 targets last week but had just five receptions for 32 yards. He did get into the end zone to salvage the day, but he's been so up and down this season that he's tough to start, even against a horrid Baltimore pass defense. Hurns should see plenty of action, though, for what that's worth.
