Scouting report

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Allen Hurns Week 6 vs. Titans
Allen Hurns was targeted 11 times last week against the Steelers but managed just four catches for 26 yards. He also had several drops. But there's still little else to turn to right now in Jacksonville, so he's going to keep on getting opportunities. Tennessee has allowed over 200 yards receiving and three total touchdowns to opposing wideouts the past two weeks, so there's a chance Hurns rights the ship. He's worth a shot as a flex.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Allen Hurns Week 5 vs. Steelers
Allen Hurns had a season-high five receptions last week, turning them into 68 yards. That's not the big-play guy we saw in the first three weeks, but with additional looks, that could change. Pittsburgh' defense has allowed 33 receptions for 448 yards and three scores to opposing wideouts the past two weeks, so Hurns isn't a bad option to roll out as a flex this week, especially with Cecil Shorts and Marqise Lee out.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Allen Hurns Week 4 vs. Chargers
Allen Hurns is turning into the new Cris Carter. All he does is catch touchdowns. He had just one reception last week but it was a 63-yard touchdown, giving him three TDs on his seven receptions this season. But he's lining up as the No. 3 receiver behind Cecil Shorts and Allen Robinson in Jacksonville. He's only worth playing if you're a gambler and need a high-risk, high-reward flex play.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Allen Hurns Week 3 vs. Colts
Allen Hurns was likely a hot waiver pickup after his Week 1 performance. But he managed just two catches for 13 yards. He's dealing with an ankle injury this week. Check his status before using him as a low-end flex option in very deep leagues.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Allen Hurns Week 2 vs Redskins
Allen Hurns started off with a bang, catching two first quarter TD passes last week. But he had just one reception on five targets in the final three quarters. If Cecil Shorts is able to go this week, Hurns' production could take a tumble, though the hamstring injury to Marquise Lee in practice this week means Hurns will likely still get his looks. Just don't expect 100 yards and a pair of scores every week. He's worth a shot as a flex this week, but not much more.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Allen Hurns Week 1 vs. Eagles
Undrafted rookie Allen Hurns was the star of the Jaguars preseason and he'll get a chance to play right away with Ace Sanders suspended. But rookie receivers often have their struggles. Hurns is going to get plenty of opportunities with everyone else either suspended or injured. The Jags figure to trail in this game, so that could mean a decent amount of targets. But not enough to make Hurns anything more than a low-end flex option.

JAX WR Allen Hurns - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Undrafted, Allen Hurns has taken advantage of injuries to other receivers to not only carve out a roster spot, but a possible role with the Jaguars.

Fantasy Downside
Hurns could be a flash in the pan. Plus, the Jaguars aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut.

Bottom Line
Hurns had 13 receptions for 230 yards in three preseason games. With Ace Sanders suspended to open the season and Allen Robinson a no-show due to injury in the preseason, Hurn has shined. He'll likely open as Jacksonville's No. 3 receiver.
