Week 11 vs. Jacksonville
Two weeks ago, Anquan Boldin caught only two passes for 10 yards, but one of his receptions was a touchdown – his fifth of the year. Since Eric Ebron returned, Boldin’s looks have declined, a trend that will likely continue during the second half of the season. Anquan should only be started if you’re out of other options.

Week 9 at Minnesota
In the loss to the Texans last Sunday, Anquan Boldin only had a four-yard reception. In the past two weeks, the veteran only has four grabs, but has scored four times during the first half of the season. The Vikings defense allows just 205 passing yards per game, so you’re better off looking elsewhere for a starting WR.

Week 8 at Houston
Despite being targeted just four times last week against the Redskins, Anquan Boldin finished with three catches for 28 yards, including the game-winning 18-yard score. On the season, he has four touchdowns, and the last two have come in the red zone. Boldin and the Detroit offense face the No. 2 pass defense on the road this week, so don’t expect a big game from the veteran.

It was another productive game for Anquan Boldin last week against the Rams, as he caught eight passes for 60 yards and his third score of the season. He is averaging five receptions for 40 yards per game, and with all the injuries to the running backs, expect to see Matthew Stafford and the Lions to continue to throw. Boldin makes for a WR3/flex start on Sunday.

Week 6 vs. Los Angeles
The veteran Anquan Boldin continues to be productive for the Lions offense. Last week against Philadelphia, he finished with four grabs for a team-high 48 yards. It was the fourth straight game he’s had at least four receptions and he’s averaging 37 yards per game on the season. While Anquan scored in back-to-back games in Weeks 2 and 3, he has a tough matchup against a solid Rams defense, as long as they're healthy, on Sunday. Boldin should be considered a WR3/flex play at best.

Week 5 vs. Philadelphia
With Golden Tate struggling with his rapport with Matthew Stafford through the first month of the season, Anquan Boldin has posted some decent numbers for the Lions. On the season, Anquan has 17 grabs for 136 yards and two TDs. In three games, the Philadelphia defense has not allowed a passing score, so Boldin should be considered no higher than a WR3 play.

Anquan Boldin Preseason Preview

Fantasy Upside
Anquan Boldin has seen just about everything in his playing career, as he begins his 14th season. Despite being 35, he can still get it done, recording two 1.000-yard seasons in his three-year stint in San Francisco. He has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark seven times as a pro, registering at least 80 receptions each time. Boldin has been targeted at least 100 times in all but one of his 13 NFL seasons.

Fantasy Downside
He is coming off one of his worst seasons with the 49ers last year, catching 69 passes for 789 yards (his lowest since an injury-plagued ’04) and four TDs. He had just two 100-yard games, none over the final eight he played in. Anquan’s 11.4 yards-per-reception was his lowest since that ’04 campaign.

Bottom Line
Boldin is a physical WR, a definite plus for a team that will start Marvin Jones and Golden Tate. He’ll likely play in three WR sets and his numbers will certainly be down to what they’ve been in the past. Anquan is probably not worth a roster spot at the beginning of the season, but if Jones or Tate miss time due to injury, he would be worth grabbing.
