Scouting report

SF WR Anquan Boldin - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Boldin is the move-the-chains guy in San Francisco and again showed last season he's one of the most physical receivers in the league by catching 83 passes for 1,062 yards and five scores.

Fantasy Downside
The addition of Torrey Smith on the other side of the 49ers formation could take some targets away from Boldin. He is also 34 years old and is at an age at where players start breaking down.

Bottom line
It would stand to reason that Boldin's game has to drop off at some point, but speed has never been a big factor for him. While Colin Kaepernick has taken some steps backward as a QB, it hasn't affected Boldin. He's going in rounds 9-11 in most drafts and is a bargain as a No. 3 fantasy receiver at that ADP.

SF WR Anquan Boldin - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Anquan Boldin Week 17 vs. Cardinals
Anquan Boldin's seven catches for 61 yards last week was his best outing since Week 12, which gives you an idea of how bad San Francisco's passing game has been of late. He had six receptions in the first meeting with Arizona back in Week 3, but for only 36 yards. At this point, Boldin is the only player to consider using in the San Francisco passing game, and only as a No. 3 receiver.

SF WR Anquan Boldin - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Anquan Boldin Week 16 vs. Chargers
Anquan Boldin had just two receptions for 23 yards last week at Seattle and has been at the mercy of some very bad Colin Kaepernick games of late. San Diego offers a bit of a reprieve this week with a better matchup, but with Kaepernick struggling, it's hard to recommend Boldin as anything more than a low-end No. 3 start or flex play despite his big numbers earlier in the season.

SF WR Anquan Boldin - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Anquan Boldin Week 15 vs. Seattle
Colin Kaepernick's struggles are affecting everyone's production and Anquan Boldin had just four receptions for 54 yards last week. He had three receptions for 19 yards against Seattle two weeks ago at home. Use Boldin as a No. 3 receiver and keep your fingers crossed. The recent results have not been good.

SF WR Anquan Boldin - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Anquan Boldin Week 14 vs. Raiders
Anquan Boldin had a season-low 19 yards on three catches last week as the 49ers struggled mightily against the Seahawks. Oakland won't offer quite as much in the way of defense, though they have been reasonably difficult on opposing wide receivers. Boldin's volume of work will allow him to bounce back. He should be a reasonable start as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 receiver.

SF WR Anquan Boldin - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Anquan Boldin Week 13 vs. Seahawks
Anquan Boldin got 11 targets last week, catching nine for 137 yards and score. He's the clear-cut No. 1 receiver in San Francisco but faces a stiff test at Seattle on a short week. Much of the buildup to this game will be about Richard Sherman and Michael Crabtree. But if you must start a San Francisco WR, it should be Boldin. It's a tough matchup, but if he gets his usual workload, Boldin should be serviceable as a No. 3.

SF WR Anquan Boldin - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Anquan Boldin Week 12 vs. Redskins
Anquan Boldin had just a so-so game last week, catching five passes for 53 yards. But Washington's pass defense has been shoddy and Boldin remains the 49ers' top target. He should be a strong No. 2 receiver play this week.
