WAS RB Antonio Gibson - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Pittsburgh Steelers

Antonio Gibson had an incredible game last week, topping 100 yards (136) while scoring three touchdowns. Gibson saw a season-high 25 touches as Washington got him involved as a runner (20 carries) and a receiver (5 receptions). Gibson has now topped 100 scrimmage yards in three of his last five games, while averaging 17.6 touches in that span. In short: Gibson is being featured, and it's paying off. His production will likely take a hit this week as he gets a brutal matchup against the Steelers (No. 9 aFPA). Pittsburgh has allowed the seventh-fewest total rushing yards and the fewest total receiving yards to running backs this season. Despite the poor matchup, Gibson should still be trusted as a low-end RB1 play.

Week 12 at Cowboys

Now that Antonio Gibson has played 10 games, let's take a look at his first five games compared to his last five games. In his first five games, Gibson averaged 11 carries and 3 receptions for 67 scrimmage yards per game (with 3 total touchdowns). In his last five games, Gibson averaged 12.8 carries and 2.4 receptions for 81.4 scrimmage yards per game (with 5 total touchdowns). Gibson is seeing around the same usage (slightly less as a receiver), but with much better production as he evolves as a runner. His best game of the season came against the Cowboys (20-128-1), a team he faces again this week. Gibson has been playing well, and gets a favorable matchup against a Cowboys defense that's allowed the second-most total rushing yards to running backs this season. Gibson should be viewed as a low-end RB1 play in Week 12.

Week 11 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

It'd be nice if Washington used Antonio Gibson as a receiver, considering he's a converted receiver, but J.D. McKissic clearly owns that role with an absurd 29 targets in his last two games. Gibson has been the ground option, and he's owned that role well. Last week he finished with 65 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. He's now scored four touchdowns in his last three games, and has a touchdown in all but three games this season. He gets a mostly favorable matchup against the Bengals this week, a defense allowing the sixth-most rushing yards per game (133.1). We like Gibson as an RB1 play in Week 11.

WAS RB Antonio Gibson - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Detroit Lions

Antonio Gibson saw just nine touches last week (6 carries, 3 receptions), finishing with 55 scrimmage yards. He scored a touchdown in his second consecutive game, and has now scored in all but two games since Week 2 (he didn't play much in Week 1). Surprisingly, J.D. McKissic saw 14 targets last week compared to Gibson's three despite the fact Gibson played WR in college. It's not clear why Gibson has been mostly a non-factor as a receiver this season, especially given how Ron Rivera compared him to Christian McCaffrey at the start of the year. But he's productive as a runner, and should be a strong RB2 play this week in a favorable matchup against the Lions. Detroit has given up the most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season, so Gibson should have a great game.

WAS RB Antonio Gibson - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. New York Giants

Antonio Gibson had the best game of his career prior to Washington's bye. Gibson ran a season-high 20 times for a season-high 128 yards and a touchdown. Oddly enough, the converted receiver had no receptions in his Week 7 game. Still, Gibson has been valuable as a runner, and has been a nice RB2 for most of the season. He'll face a Giants defense this week that he had some success against just a few weeks ago. In his previous game, Gibson had 55 scrimmage yards. We're predicting better numbers this week for Gibson, making him a strong RB2 play in Week 9.

WAS RB Antonio Gibson - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Dallas Cowboys

We saw a worst-case scenario in Washington's backfield last week as Antonio Gibson (13 touches, 55 yards) split playing time with J.D. McKissic (14 touches, 84 yards) and Peyton Barber (5 touches, 10 yards). It's not clear why Barber is back in the mix as he's averaging 1.6 yards per touch this season, but the real threat to Gibson's value has been McKissic. McKissic had more touches, yards and playing time than Gibson in Week 6. We still feel like Gibson offers more upside, but his value has certainly taken a hit. He has a chance at a bounce-back game this week in a favorable matchup against the Cowboys (No. 23 aFPA). We like Gibson as a strong RB2 play.

WAS RB Antonio Gibson - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at New York Giants

Antonio Gibson finished with 51 scrimmage yards last week, his lowest output since Week 1 when he only played 18 snaps. He also saw J.D. McKissic lead the way as the pass-catching back as McKissic finished with six receptions on eight targets. You'd think the former receiver (Gibson) would get more of those opportunities, but I digress. The good news is Gibson's role didn't change much, he just struggled to be effective against a tough Rams defense. He gets a decent matchup this week against the Giants (18th in aFPA) and we'd expect to see better numbers from him. He should be viewed as a solid RB2 in Week 6.
