Scouting report

SF WR Brandon Aiyuk - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

With just 37 yards against the Seahawks, Brandon Aiyuk now has under 50 receiving yards in five of his six games played this season and has seen five or fewer targets in four games. He has yet to find the end zone this season. It's been a very disappointing start for a receiver that just earned a big payday. Did the lost camp time hinder him? He'll look to bounce back against the Chiefs, who are allowing 217 passing yards per game. Aiyuk is just outside our top 20 wide receivers this week.

SF WR Brandon Aiyuk - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Seattle Seahawks

It took a while, but we finally got the Brandon Aiyuk we had been waiting for since he got his new contract. 147 yards on eight catches (12 targets). Is the connection between Aiyuk and Brock Purdy back? It seemed that way last week and that could continue against Seattle, who will be without cornerback Riq Wooten. We know Aiyuk can break out in any game and with Seattle banged up, Thursday could be another coming out party for Aiyuk.

SF WR Brandon Aiyuk - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Arizona Cardinals

We're still waiting for that first big game of 2024 for Brandon Aiyuk. Four games, none above 50 yards. Could that breakout come this week? Perhaps, as Arizona is among the bottom half of the NFL against the pass. He'll face two corners in Arizona that are both allowing passer ratings of over 100.

SF WR Brandon Aiyuk - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. New England Patriots

There's a chance Deebo Samuel returns this week, but either way, Aiyuk is at least a flex option against a down pass defense of the Patriots. If Samuel is out, Aiyuk should get plenty of targets -- he had 10 last week against the Rams. That said, it was Jauan Jennings who shined in Week 3. Aiyuk has yet to reach 50 receiving yards in a game this season and has yet to reach the end zone. Aiyuk remains a flex option for Week 4.

SF WR Brandon Aiyuk - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Los Angeles Rams

Brock Purdy is quickly losing targets to injuries. Fortunately for him, Brandon Aiyuk is still healthy but may still be shaking off the rust from the preseason. This could be that time as the Rams have not been very good at stopping the pass thus far and are near the bottom five in our matchup rankings for wide receivers. Aiyuk is going to have to really step up to help offset not having Deebo Samuel or George Kittle. Here’s thinking he will, making him worthy of a WR1 lineup spot.

SF WR Brandon Aiyuk - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Minnesota Vikings

After all the contract drama during training camp, Brandon Aiyuk had a very quiet and disappointing start to his season. He caught just two passes for 28 yards. A key note here: Aiyuk played just 43 of 72 snaps against the Jets. That number will increase, thus his fantasy opportunity will increase. Aiyuk should be just fine going forward, starting this week against the Vikings.

SF WR Brandon Aiyuk - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Brandon Aiyuk has become one of the best route-runners in the NFL and makes the most of what can sometimes be limited opportunities. Our John Paulsen noted that Aiyuk finished as WR12 last season despite being just inside the top 30 in targets (105). Aiyuk had seven games with at least 100 yards receiving. He is him, as the cool kids would say.

Fantasy Downside

Aiyuk is in the middle of a "hold-in" as he seeks a new contract. Trade speculation has run rampant for months, but the 49ers have consistently said they aren't trading Aiyuk. And as mentioned before, he was only just inside the top 30 in targets, not what you'd typically see from a top wide receiver, so his usage could be higher.

2024 Bottom Line

Whether it's with the 49ers or somewhere else, Aiyuk has become one of the best receivers in the league and will be one of the best fantasy options out there. Assuming he stays in San Francisco, he'll continue to have good quarterback play in an explosive Kyle Shanahan offense. Not bad for a third-round pick.
